Oι W!IZARD είναι μία punk-hardcore μπάντα από το Μπορντό της Γαλλίας που έπεσε στην αντίληψή μας σχετικά πρόσφατα. Απαρτίζονται από τρία μέλη, τους Romain Arnault: μπάσο, φωνητικά, Manuel Cayla: κιθάρα, φωνητικά, πλήκτρα και Julien Bordenave: ντράμς, samples. Κατά την άποψη μας "το'χουν" πολύ και έτσι σκεφτήκαμε πώς καλό θα ήταν να κάνουμε ένα SpeeditUp21 μαζί τους για να μάθουμε κάμποσα παραπάνω πράγματα για αυτούς. Πετύχαμε διάνα γιατί όσα μας είπαν ήταν πολύ ενδιαφέροντα και εύστοχα! Παρακάτω όσα μας απάντησε ο Roman.

Είμαστε οι W!ZARD, και το είδος της μουσικής που παίζουμε είναι post-punk, post-hardcore noise.

Τρία συγκροτήματα που αγαπάμε πολύ είναι Daughters, Gilla Band και Shame.

Ένα κομμάτι μας που πρέπει να ακούσετε είναι το Despite.
Οι περισσότεροι από τους στίχους μας αναφέρονται σε θυμό, αγάπη, απογοήτευση, βία και το χάος που μας περιβάλλει. Εχει να κάνει με την παγκόσμια ένταση και τον εκνευρισμό που δεχόμαστε όλοι, και απλώς προσπαθούμε να βάλουμε λέξεις σε αυτό.

Την πρώτη φορά που ανεβήκαμε στη σκηνή για live υποθέτουμε πως είχαμε άγχος, όμως είναι τόσο παλία που δεν το θυμόμαστε. Αυτό που ξέραμε πάντα είναι πως μόλις ανέβουμε στη σκηνή θα πρέπει να είναι σα να παίζουμε για τελευταία φορά. Ακόμα και αν ειναι τρεις άνθρωποι στο κοινό, εμείς θα πάιξουμε με την ίδια ενέργεια.

Το μουσικό ραδιόφωνο (των FM) είναι ίδιο με το παρελθόν του. Πάντα προμοτάρει μουσική που φέρνει λεφτά. Τώρα, στη Γαλλία, είναι η urban και η pop μουσική. Οι περισσότεροι ακούγονται σα ρομπότ γιατί ηχογραφούν στο υπνοδωμάτιο τους με το logic pro ayto-tune και μιλάνε σα σκατά για κορίτσια, αλλά κανείς δεν ενδιαφέρεται! Πάντως για το indie rock, εξακολουθουμε να έχουμε μερικους τοπικούς σταθμούς με καλό γούστο!

Θα θέλαμε κάποτε να παίξουμε live στο Glastonbury Festival ή το CBGB.  Είναι δύο εντελώς διαφορετικές εμπειρίες αλλά οι καλύτερες.

Θα γουστάραμε να ήταν δική μας σύνθεση κάθε τραγούδι από το Songs of Praise by Shame.

Ένα live που παραβρεθήκαμε -σαν θεατές- και μας «πήρε τα μυαλά», ήταν των DITZ.

Η συμβουλή μας σε όποιον σκέφτεται να φτιάξει μπάντα είναι να έχετε υπομονή και να δουλευετε σκληρότερα κάθε μέρα.

Η άποψή μας για την επίδραση του internet στη μουσική είναι κάπως ισορροπημένη. Εξαρτάται πως το βλέπει κανέις! Το καλό ειναι ότι μπορείς να ανακαλύπτεις ολες τις νέες μπάντες "σκάβοντας" όσο πιο πολύ μπορείς, αλλά μπορεί επίσης να είσαι πρόβατο και να ακολουθείς την κάθε μόνα που ο αλγόριθμος σου επιβάλει.

Αν μπορούσαμε να μεταφερθούμε σε ένα μουσικό περιβάλλον του παρελθόντος αυτό θα ήταν η Μεγάλη Βρετανία γιατί εκεί βρίσκεται ο πυρήνας της rock μουσικής.

Το πλέον παράξενο που έχει συμβεί σε live μας είναι ότι είχαμε αρκετή...γαστρική δυσφορία που οφειλόταν στην ένταση που είχαμε στη σκηνή!

Θα ήταν τέλειο αν κάποτε συνεργαζόμασταν με παραγωγούς σαν τον David Sardy ή τον Steve Albini.

Η πλέον υπερεκτιμημένη μπάντα ειναι οι Muse και η πλέον υποτιμημένη είναι οι Liily.

Ένα από τα καλύτερα albums που έχουν ποτέ γραφτεί είναι το In Utero των Nirvana.

Θα θέλαμε να έχουμε γράψει μουσική για μια ταινία του Tarantino, όπως όλοι!

Ένα βιβλίο που μας συνεπήρε είναι το Bunny Suicides του Andy Riley.

Η περίοδος της καραντίνας και όσα πέρασες ο πλανήτης  covid-19, ήταν σκληρό. Έχει υπάρξει μείωση του κόσμου που πάει σε μεγάλα ή μικρά venues, και μερικά από αυτά αναγκάστηκαν να κλείσουν. Καθώς προτεραιότητα ήταν να σωθούν "χρήσιμα" πράγματα, η κυβέρνηση  άφησε τον πολιτισμό στην άκρη και έτσι πολλά venues καταστράφηκαν. Καθώς υπάρχει το θέμα του πληθωρισμού, έτσι δεν είναι προτεραιότητα πλέον η αγορά εισιτηρίου σε συναυλία ή βινυλίου. Όμως θα έπρεπε να είναι γιατί ο πολιτισμός (οι τέχνες) μας δίνουν όλα όσα χρειαζόμαστε! 

Σε 10 χρόνια από τώρα θα θέλαμε, σαν μπάντα να είμαστε ευτυχισμένοι!

Η ερώτηση που ποτέ δε μας κάνουν, οπότε την ρωτάμε και απαντάμε μόνοι μας είναι: …Do you know about the Bird? Because everybodies heard that the Bird is the Word.

W!IZARD is a punk-hardcore band from Bordeaux, France that we came across lately. The band cosists of three members, Romain Arnault: bass, vocals, Manuel Cayla:guitar, vocals, keyboard and Julien Bordenave: drums, samples. We do believe that "they've got it", so we did a  SpeeditUp21 with them in order to learn some more things about them. Everything they told us was interesting and to the point! We are W!ZARD and our music genre is post-punk post-hardcore noise.

Three bands that we love are Daughters, Gilla Band and Shame.

One of our songs that you should definitely listen to is Despite.

Our lyrics are mainly inspired by anger, love, disappointment, violence and chaos surrounding us. It’s about a global frustration that everyone gets and we try to put words on it.

When we got on stage for our first gig, we supposed we were stressed but its so far we can’t remember!  The only thing we know when we arrive on stage is that it has to be like our last show and even if there are three people in the crowd, we will play for them with the same energy.

(FM) radio nowadays is the same as the past. It’s about promoting the music that makes more money. Now it’s urban music and pop music (in France). Most of them sound like robots because they are all recording in their bedroom with the logic pro auto-tune and they talk like shit about girls but nobody cares! For indie rock, we still have some local radios with good tastes !

We would really like to give a concert at the Glastonbury Festival or CBGB. It is two really different experiences but the best!

It would be great if we had written every song from Songs of Praise by Shame.

A gig that we attended -as fans- and really “blew our minds”, was DITZ.

Our advice to anyone who wants to form a band is to be patient and work harder everyday.

Our opinion on the influence that the internet had on music is balanced. It depends how you use it! The good way is to discover all the new bands by digging as deeply as you can but you can also be a sheep and follow every trend and you will discover things only because the algorithm tells you to do it!

If we could go back to the past, and live in a music environment, that would be the UK, because it’s the cradle of rock music.

The weirdest thing we have heard/experienced in one of our gigs is that we had a lot of vagal discomfort due to the over intensity we had on stage!

It would be great if we ever had the chance to work with producers like David Sardy or Steve Albini.

The most overrated band in the world is Muse and the most underrated band is Liily.

One of the best albums ever written is In Utero by Nirvana.

We would have loved to write music for a Tarantino’s movie like everyone!

One book that we were really overwhelmed by was Bunny Suicides by Andy Riley.

The quarantine period and everything that the planet had (and still does) to go through due to covid-19, was tough.
There is a decrease of people going to venues (big or small) and some clubs had to close. As the priority was to save “useful” things, the government has left theculture on a side and a lot of little venues were broken. And there is the inflation stuff, so it’s not a priority anymore to buy tickets to ashow or to buy vinyls. But it should be a priority because culture brings everything we need!

In 10 years from now we would like to be (as a band) happy.

One question that nobody ever asks us, so we are going to ask and
answer it ourselves is: Do you know about the Bird? Because everybodies heard that the Bird is the Word.
